Calling All Volunteers for Brandi's March tour dates!...

It's 2018, we are over halfway toward our fundraising goal for The Story Campaign and we are more committed to this cause than ever. Please lend us your support as we enter into the next phase of our campaign to help children whose lives have been torn apart by war. The Story Campaign is hitting the road with Brandi Carlile this spring and we need volunteers! “All of these lines across my face tell you the story of who I am.” To commemorate the 10 year anniversary of Brandi Carlile’s “The Story,” The Looking Out Foundation has partnered with War Child UK and Children In Conflict to launch The Story Campaign – a sharing of stories from children whose families, communities, and schools have been torn apart by war. Every month, we will be posting new stories from these resilient children and young adults so that their voices can be heard and so that we can raise funds to help them and the thousands of other people who are unfairly impacted by war. All proceeds from The Story Campaign will benefit War Child UK & Children In Conflict. “But these stories don’t mean anything when you’ve got no one to tell them to” We’re relying on our Looking Out community to share these stories and help us reach our $1 million fundraising goal for these extraordinary people. We are recruiting two volunteers per show to join our Looking Out Street Team. You will be armed with iPads to sign people up and collection buckets to raise funds and awareness for The Story Campaign. Selected Street Teamers will be provided with a ticket to Brandi’s show, a limited edition Street Teamer T-shirt and an amazing opportunity to help children in dire need across the globe. In addition, the Street Teamer who signs up the most people will win a VIP concert ticket package for any Brandi Carlile show in 2018. All we ask is that you are knowledgeable, enthusiastic and inspired by The Story Campaign. Meet Vania, Age 12, Iraq

"This job is extremely hard and backbreaking. I need help to carry the equipment and materials. The factory prefers that its workers bring their families as additional labor." - Vania's father At the age of 12, Vania had never been to school. She was unable to read or write, though she’d always hoped to get a proper education. When War Child began literacy classes in her hometown, Vania eagerly joined. She was an engaging and determined student – eager to catch up on all those years of learning she’d missed.  When Vania suddenly stopped coming to the classes, War Child staff were concerned and tried to get in touch with her family. After several attempts, they discovered that Vania had been forced to move with her family to a remote area. Her father had found a job in a brick-making factory, and his family moved with him so they all could work there too. When they found Vania she was very sick from the hard physical work and upset that her father had forced her to give up her education. War Child contacted the local network of Child Protection Committees, and after several negotiating attempts they convinced her father to allow Vania to go back to the lessons. Vania moved in with her aunt and is attending literacy sessions on a regular basis. War Child is still in contact with her and her family, and they are pleased to report that Vania is proudly able to read and write. So much so that she’s now helping War Child staff in the literacy sessions.  Help children like Vania give back, please DONATE to The Story Campaign.
